MCKINLEYVILLE- Inside Azelea Hall Monday, residents and county officials came together to start working on the design for the Central Avenue Safety Project. A group of residents and business owners met to tell county officials what they wanted for the project.

An $800,000 grant has been set aside for the plan that will mainly focus on median treatments.

"Central Avenue is one of our most heavily traveled corridors in the county," said Chris Whitworth, the Deputy Director of Public Works for the county.

Community members had several ideas for the project that included safer access for bicyclists and walkers to ideas that would make the street more scenic.

This is one of the first meeting on the design with the community. Whitworth said they county will gather all the ideas and present a plan to the public in September.
