EUREKA- The Discovery Museum has been in its temporary location since the beginning of the month and museum officials say it’s been a success so far.
The Discovery Museum was located at the Carson Block Building in Eureka for the last 14 years. However, the building is being seismically retrofitted and receiving other upgrades, and all tenants had to vacate by the end of November. The museum is now offering the same programming at the Jefferson Community Center as officials search for a new location. Museum representatives are currently in negotiations with a building owner for a new, permanent space in downtown Eureka, and the museum could move in this spring.
"The discovery museum has been a presence in the community for 14 years and we provide additional play and learning opportunities that aren't found in a traditional playground or in an after school program. So by having a space that we can still do educational opportunities, play groups and just free play was important for us to maintain membership within our community," said Amy Whitlatch, the Executive Director of the Discovery Museum.
