Dog expected to make full recovery after alleged stabbing
The dog that was allegedly stabbed yesterday by her owner is expected to make a full recovery according to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said Saturday that the dog, “Little Bit,” was treated for her injuries and was released to the Humboldt County Animal Shelter on Friday. Her owner, 43-year-old Westly Wright was arrested yesterday afternoon for felony animal cruelty. Wright told deputies that his dog had attacked another dog the day before and he felt it was necessary to kill her. He took the dog outside the home on Purdue Drive in Eureka and allegedly stabbed her once in the shoulder. Wright then fled the scene after neighbors called 911.
Deputies located Wright after about an hour of searching. During that time, South Bay Elementary School was placed on lock down due to its proximity to the area where they were searching.
Wright was booked into the Humboldt County Jail on $35,000 bail.
