EUREKA- A new Humboldt County undersheriff was sworn into office Monday morning. William Frederick Honsal III took the position after it became vacant earlier this month when Michael Thomas announced his retirement. Honsal has been in law enforcement for the past 18 years serving most recently as the lieutenant for the Humboldt State University police department. He also served as a district attorney investigator for six years and was an officer for the Eureka Police Department along with other police departments in the Bay Area. Honsal is now second in command for the sheriff's office and is responsible for all of the division and units of the office. He says he's proud to call the North Coast home and wants to reinforce a service-oriented department.
