Drier than normal weather concerns fire officials for New Years
Ringing in the New Year is a joyous tradition around the world.
However, with our current low rainfall, fire officials are warning about the use of fireworks. Low humidity, dry fuel moisture levels and increased fire activity are up this year. At this time, Northern California is experiencing only around 30-percent of it’s normal rainfall.
Although the use of fireworks is a tradition, fire officials say they are dangerous and can quickly change a safe and happy new year into a sad and costly one.
Authorities warn that parents and guardians are responsible for any willful acts by minors that cause damage, injury or death to another person including reimbursement for fire suppression. Be careful, keep a fire hose nearby and never launch or throw fire works.
