"Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign brings increased law enforcement visibility to North Coast
Humboldt County’s “Avoid the 7 DUI Task Force” is joining in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” high visibility campaign. It runs through September 2nd.
Local law enforcement say in 2011, there were over 9,800 highway fatalities in which drunk drivers or motorcycle riders were involved. That works out to 31 percent of all motor vehicle crash fatalities for the year -- about an average of one fatality every 53 minutes. The goal of the campaign is to prevent late summer d-u-i accidents and deaths by being more visible.
Participating in the campaign are the 7 local agencies of “Avoid”; Rio Dell, Ferndale, Fortuna, Eureka, and Arcata police departments, the Humboldt County District Attorney’s office, and the California Highway Patrol.
