Driver killed in solo car crash at 101 and Airport Road
MCKINLEYVILLE - A man is dead after an early morning solo car crash on Highway 101 at Airport Road. Emergency personnel responded to the scene just before 4:30 a.m. A silver Subaru was off the road and crashed into an embankment. The only occupant, a male driver, was pronounced dead on scene. Based on the location of the Subaru, California Highway Patrol says the vehicle went into the grass center median approaching airport road, drove in between the northbound and southbound portions of the over-pass, and then collided with the embankment. Investigators are awaiting a toxicology report from the coroner to help determine the cause of the crash. The identity of the driver is being withheld at this time.
“One thing I want to point out about this collision is that it was raining at the time of the collision so of course we had wet roadways, probably reduced visibility. It was in the early hours of the morning so it was still dark out. We want to remind motorists that there is rain projected through the weekend at the very least and we are in the middle of the rainy weather here in Humboldt County and the majority of the collisions that we see could be avoided if people would just slow down,” Officer Matt Harvey, with the California Highway Patrol, said.
“Will you be attending Senator Mike McGuire’s first Town Hall meeting?”
