Drought conditions worsen in Humboldt, Trinity Counties
NORTH COAST- On Wednesday the North Coast had a taste of rain but according to experts that is minimal in comparison to what we need to get out of a drought. The U.S. Drought Monitor shows Humboldt and Trinity Counties are among dozens who have been upgraded from severe to extreme drought conditions.
The updated drought monitor was released by the USDA and shows expanding extreme and exceptional drought conditions across the entire state. Officials are calling 2013 the driest year on record and at Ruth Lake it remains at 55 percent full, but are normally at 90 percent full. These drought conditions are expected to persist at least into the spring and the climate prediction center forecasts below normal precipitation for the next three months. Governor brown is still asking people in the state to conserve their water usage by at least 20 percent.
