DUI Charges Against Mother After Crash With Two-Year-Old Son
A Trinidad woman is facing felony DUI and child endangerment charges after allegedly driving under the influence with her child. Miranda Ann Costa, 21, was driving north on Scenic Drive off Westhaven Drive when she allegedly ran off the road and into a tree at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday.
Costa is in the ICU at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital after sustaining serious injuries and having to be extricated from the vehicle. Her son, Malachai Costa, was in the front seat of the car and both were reportedly not wearing seat belts. The two-year-old suffered minor injuries and is out of the hospital and in custody of his father.
Following the crash both were taken to Mad River Hospital in ambulances and Costa was arrested for felony driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and causing injury to another person, felony child endangerment, felony probation violation. Costa is also facing misdemeanor charges from driving with a suspended license from a previous DUI charge.
CHP is still investigating the reason why Costa ran off the road. Child welfare services have been notified about the accident.
