DUI taskforce plans checkpoint

The Avoid the 7 DUI Task Force will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on this Friday, December 20th  somewhere in Humboldt County. Officials say the deterrent effect of a DUI checkpoint is a proven resource in reducing the number of people killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes.

Research shows that those crashes drop by an average of 20-percent when well-publicized checkpoints are set up. Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. They’ll also check for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily.

A grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety provides funding for the checkpoint. Authorities want to remind everyone if you see a drunk driver, call 911.
