Emergency construction to begin on Redwood Drive in Southern Humboldt
SOUTHERN HUMBOLDT - Emergency construction work will begin on Redwood Drive between Redway and Garberville starting Monday.
Officials with Humboldt County Public Works say recurring rock slides at the Redwood Bluffs have caused the county to close the road indefinitely.
An Oregon scaling company will begin to knock loose rock from the hill. They will also drill to break up other solid sections and replace several culverts throughout the week. After the work is done, a geotechnical team will be brought in to see if a netting system will need to be used for further safety precautions.
All told, the project is expected to cost $50,000 dollars. Officials are hoping to qualify for state disaster funds.
