EPD awards two scholarships to cadets at CR Basic Law Enforcement Academy
Two members of the 113th class of cadets at the College of the Redwoods Basic Law Enforcement Academy received scholarships, courtesy of the Eureka Police Department.
On Friday, the winners of the two scholarships were announced. Pranay Manghirmalani, who is 22 years old, won the $2,500 scholarship and 26-year-old John Castro received the $1,500 scholarship. This is the first time the EPD has provided scholarships to cadets in the academy. The scholarships are named after Murl Harpham, the 56 year EPD veteran. Cadets had to write an essay about what they think the biggest change in policing was during the time Murl Harpham served in the department in order to be considered for the scholarship.
