Eureka - Eureka’s Problem Oriented Police were using heavy equipment Thursday to clean out a well-known homeless encampment.
At 8:30 in the morning, a work crew assisted officers in the green belt area at the foot of Del Norte Street. Campers were given notice this would happen three days ago. Crew members filled four 40-yard capacity dumpsters. Officials with the city say it is an ongoing issue. Clean up crews daily go out to remove trash and garbage from these areas.
A more lasting solution to the issue is being sought by law enforcement and city officials. Meetings are planned for the very near future.
