EUREKA- The Eureka Police Department added four new motorcycles to their inventory after being a year without them. The department upgraded to a newer BMW make equipped with police lights, sirens, and a PA system. In 2012 the department had three motorcycles and officers said the bidding process took about a year to complete before they were able to move forward.
The new bikes arrived this month and cost a little over $100 thousand, one of which was paid for through a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety.
Senior traffic officer Gary Whitmer said motorcycle patrols tend to decrease the collision rate within the city and are more efficient for traffic control.
