Eureka business owner arrested for fraud and grand theft
Eureka - A local business owner has been arrested for felony charges of Workers Compensation Insurance Fraud and Grand Theft.
57-year old Tim Shelley, who owns Tim’s Plumbing in Eureka, was arrested yesterday. The Humboldt District Attorney’s Office, after a joint investigation with the California Department of Insurance, are alleging multiple illegal business operations, a warranty scam and insurance fraud.
Officials allege Shelley deliberately failed to obtain Worker’s Comp Insurance for his employees and when they were injured, illegally discouraged them from claiming workers compensation benefits. The Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office will be prosecuting the case. If convicted, Shelley faces up to eighteen years in state prison and $260,000 in fines.
