Eureka City Council approves first reading of Social Host Ordinance
EUREKA- On Tuesday, the Eureka City Council unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance designed to curb underage drinking in the city.
Members of Humboldt Allies for Substance Abuse Prevention brought the Social Host Ordinance to the council. The proposed ordinance would give escalating fines to adults found responsible for allowing underage drinking, such as the host of a party. Landlords or homeowners would not necessarily be subject to penalties. In addition to the fines, which start at $250 for the first offense, violators would have to pay for the Eureka Police Department response to the scene.
The council will vote to adopt the ordinance at the Eureka City Council meeting on November 4th. If adopted, the ordinance would go into effect 30 days later.
Should the Humboldt County Correctional Facility provide more re-entry fairs for prisoners?
