Eureka Council could approve updated Housing Element at Tuesday's meeting

EUREKA- As part of the General Plan Update process, the City of Eureka has been working to update its Housing Element.  On Tuesday, the council could approve that update at the Eureka City Council Meeting. 

Updating a city’s Housing Element is a state-mandated process required every five years. A housing element must identify and analyze housing needs, both now and projected. Also, the city must outline its goals, policies, and plans for developing, improving and preserving housing. On Tuesday, city staff will recommend that the council approve the updated housing element.   

"I think our housing element pretty much lays out the roadmap for where we are going into the future.   It does demonstrate that we have the ability to provide housing for all levels of income that are required," said Kristen Goetz, the Senior Planner for the City of Eureka Community Development Department.

If the council adopts the updated Housing Element, it will be submitted by June 30th to the California Department of Housing and Community Development for Certification.
