1. Phoenix High School, Phoenix, OR (199.5 points) placed seven in the finals with two wrestlers capturing first.
2. Pleasant Valley High School, Pleasant Valley, CA ( 142 points)
3. Eureka High School, Eureka, CA (141 points) placed three in the finals with one first place finish.
22 teams competed in a tough and well attended tournament (over 500 in attendance). Local teams competed well with Eureka and McKinleyville placing in the top ten. The tournament included teams from Oregon and California with notable wrestlers at all weight brackets including several ranked at sections and state (CA and OR).
Notable Eureka Wrestlers:
Kolton Martin remains undefeated for the season taking first at 182 pounds, Devin Dittmar took second at 132 wrestling McKinleyville’s Jack Norton tough with a loss by one point, Andrew Guisa took second at 220 and Kyle Tanuma placed third at 195 pounds. Also placing were Ivan Osario (106), Bradley Maples (120), Cris Smith (170), Tyson Miller (195) and Forest Russell (285).
In addition, the tournament included a Junior Varsity Round Robin tournament for 100+ young wrestlers. Eureka’s Marie Seely (106) and Will Dilling (132) went undefeated and placed first in this tournament. Both are first year wrestlers and freshmen at Eureka High.
Cristian Smith (170) suffered a severe sprain to his ankle (thought it was broken) in the semi-final rounds resulting in a big set-back for the Eureka team. Cris; a senior leader for the team, was having a great year placing second last week at the Nor-Cal Championships in Anderson, CA.
