Eureka man dies in crash involving semi-truck

FRESHWATER- A Eureka man is dead after a crash involving a semi and pickup.

Just before noon Wednesday, emergency crews responded to Myrtle Avenue near Pigeon Point Road.

A Mazda truck was traveling northbound when it went off the edge of the roadway striking a guardrail and then hit head-on with an Ayers distribution truck.

Humboldt Bay Fire used the jaws of life to free the 24-year-old driver of the Mazda truck. He was transported to St. Joseph Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A dog in the truck was uninjured.

The driver of the semi, 28-year-old Tyson Boynton of Ferndale was also uninjured.

Alcohol or drugs as factors in the collision remains under investigation.
