Eureka Police, California ABC officials educate businesses on selling alcohol
EUREKA- About 40 people, including business owners and employees, attended the Licensing Education on Alcohol and Drugs Seminar in Eureka on Monday.
"There are several complicated laws when it comes to serving alcohol and hearing a reminder of those laws or getting the training for the first time really helps encourage compliance and avoid any type of interaction with law enforcement," said Officer Corrie Watson with the Eureka Police Department.
The free seminar was held by the Eureka Police Department and funded through a grant from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Employers and employees of businesses with liquor licenses from around Humboldt County were invited to attend. During the seminar, an ABC Agent provided information on carding people, spotting fake IDs, identifying overly intoxicated people, identifying people under the influence of drugs and the state laws related to serving alcohol and serving alcohol to minors. People in attendance had the chance to ask the ABC Agent and an EPD officer questions as well. Authorities say the seminar is important because breaking these laws can be devastating.
"We have a big problem with minors drinking alcohol and a big focus of this training is to discourage the sale of alcohol to anybody under the age of 21 so that hopefully our community is safer and more protected from overly serving alcohol or those people who are overly intoxicated or dangerous," Officer Watson said.
