Eureka Police Department and Humboldt Bay Fire teaming up for Christmas fundraiser
EUREKA- The Eureka Police Department and Humboldt Bay Fire teamed up to brighten the holidays for local children.
The two departments are selling raffle tickets and the winner will receive a cornhole set. The fundraiser is for the first ever Shop With a Cop and Firefighter event, which will be held on Saturday morning at Target. Betty Chinn will gather kids to go shopping with police and firefighters, and the children will receive fundraiser money to go shopping with. About $1,000 have been raised so far and the raffle winner will be announced this Friday.
"It's important for our kids to understand that law enforcement, the cops and firefighters are people they can go to when they're in trouble and we're good people and that we don't want them to look at us in a negative light. We want them to look at us positively. So this gives us an opportunity to have some interaction away from any type of criminal element and really go out and have a chance to enjoy a day with each other and spend some money and help them get some stuff for Christmas," said Captain Brian Stephens with the EPD.
You can buy raffle tickets by visiting the Eureka Police Department or Humboldt Bay Fire Station 1, which are both next to the intersection of C Street and 6th Street.
