ORICK- A 20-year-old Michigan man who went missing in the ocean near Orick on Wednesday is now considered a drowning victim.

Bobby Root entered the water at the mouth of Redwood Creek on Wednesday evening to rescue his dog and was swept away.  The Coast Guard, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue as well as other agencies suspended their search after 17 hours.  Now, the operation has changed from a rescue to a recovery of the body. Root was visiting friends in Humboldt County and now, his father, Jeff Root, has a message for all parents.

"When your children are with you, tell them you love them every day, that there so important to you.  It's crazy how they can be here one day and gone the next," said Root.
