FBI, DEA meet with local tribal leaders and law enforcement
FORTUNA- Members of the FBI, DEA and other federal agencies were in the Friendly City Tuesday, meeting with local tribal leaders and law enforcement officials.
The annual two-day event at Fortuna’s River Lodge brought together dozens of enforcement agencies from across Humboldt, Del Norte, Mendocino and Lake counties.
The group worked to collaborate and discuss issues relating to prosecution and drug enforcement, including enforcement of state law on tribal lands.
Along with the discussion, attendees participated in various training sessions throughout the day. The event will continue tomorrow, with a break out session focusing on general law enforcement and prosecutorial issues.
“I think the biggest thing is a deepening awareness of all our different responsibilities and sort of the cogs in the wheel type of thing, how we work together and obviously the recognition part, of who is who and what agencies they work with and what those agencies can bring to the table,” said Humboldt County Sheriff Mike Downey.
