Federal court blocks future flow releases for the Klamath
HOOPA- On Thursday a federal court in Fresno ruled that future flows to the Klamath River from the trinity will no longer be allowed.
The judge’s decision states that water releases will only be authorized in the future for Trinity River restoration. That means water releases like those that occurred this summer to help the salmon in the Lower Klamath River will no longer be an option in future years. Hoopa Valley Tribal officials say this decision will be devastating for local salmon if the river cannot recover this year. The decision will not stop additional flows currently being released to the Klamath. But will be effective next time those flows are needed.
