Feds continue to divert water over tribal concerns
Klamath River - The Secretary of the Interior, Sally Jewell and the Bureau of Reclamation has rejected tribal water concerns on the Klamath watershed.
Just a week after California officials reported over 300-salmon deaths on the Salmon and Klamath Rivers, Bureau of Reclamation officials say Secretary Jewell will continue to divert water to irrigation uses in the Central Valley. Tribal leaders say senior water rights are being set aside and they are worried this will have a huge impact. The federal government is rolling the dice.
In 2012 & 2013 the Department of Reclamation released water for safe salmon migration. This year, with one of the worse droughts in California history, they are continuing diversions.
