FEMA reverses on disaster relief after Governor Brown appeals to Obama
New developments on a story we featured last week on News Channel 3. FEMA, who denied Governor Brown and the State of California disaster relief funds for the Rim Fire that wreaked so much damage in 3-counties, has now reconsidered.
Governor Brown had made the original request back in October of 2013. When FEMA denied funds shortly after that, Governor Brown appealed the decision to President Obama and presented him with new damage estimates and details not available in October. Today, President Obama issued a major disaster declaration for California, which will trigger a release of federal funds to help communities recover. Current estimates of the damage caused by the fire, which burned for an extended period of time, now exceeds 54-million dollars.
