Ferndale woman chosen as America's Farmers 'Mom of the Year'
FERNDALE- A Ferndale woman was awarded $5,000 Thursday for being chosen as America’s Farmers 'Mom of the Year.' Mary Ann Bansen is one of five regional winners nationwide and was selected based on an essay submitted by her daughter. Several people showed up to the Humboldt County Fair to congratulate and give thanks to Bansen for the contributions she has made to the community.
Bansen is a part of the local 4-H group and she also helped establish a senior services program in her community that provides meals and transportation to home-bound people in town. Bansen and her husband own and operate a pasture-based dairy farm that has been in their family for nearly 100 years. She said it is an honor to be recognized and is proud to be part of the agriculture community. Bansen said, “One of the things we want to do is pay back our community, we feel very fortunate to live in such a caring community that helped us raise our kids and supported us.”
