Arcata Fire Protection District will swear in their fire Chief and four Captains on Wednesday at the Downtown Fire Department in Arcata.

Fire Chief Desmond Cowan said this is part of the restructuring of the department after a grant helped them to put more career firefighters at the downtown location.

There are now nine captains on Arcata fire, which means a captain will ride on each engine.

Captain Nathan Padula said it will make the department better at fighting fires.

"What it'll do is that first engine will be able to get on scene and really set up a suppression tactic to mitigate the incidence and it also allows us to set up a command system," said Padula.
