Fire crews respond to blaze on hill near College of the Redwoods
A grassland fire broke out on the hill above College of the Redwoods this evening and mainly burned grass, stumps and some trees. No buildings were in the area. Crews from Humboldt Bay Fire and Loleta Fire along with a hand crew from Cal Fire were on the scene. The fire was about a quarter mile up the hill south east of the campus and posed no danger to the college.
Fire officials say Cal Fire dispatched the call and although the fire was well established when crews arrived; they were able to stop the spread quickly. At this time the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
