Fire destroys two Blocksburg homes, scorches half acre of land

BLOCKSBURG- a fire destroyed two homes Wednesday night on Cemetery Road in Blocksburg. The call came in around 6:10 p.m. CAL FIRE and crews from Bridgeville and Alderpoint responded.

Fire officials say one home caught fire. Flames then spread to a second residence and into wild-land area. Both homes were complete losses. A nearby garage also sustained damage and almost a half acre of surrounding grass and trees burned. No one was injured.

Crews were out late into the night cleaning up the fire and returned Thursday morning to put out hot spots. The fire's cause is undetermined. However, CAL FIRE officials say in rural areas like this, it is important for people to be aware of the dry conditions and fire risk. They say this year is proving to be drier than years past, meaning once a fire starts, it can rapidly grow.

To help protect your home from a spreading fire, clear out brush and tall grass from around the residence. To learn more about creating defensible space around your home, visit
