Fishermen's Terminal Building in Eureka to get new seafood restaurant
EUREKA- A Eureka building originally designed to hold a restaurant will be getting a seafood café next year.
The Fishermen’s Terminal Building, which is at the foot of “c” street, was built in 2011. The partially occupied building has not had a restaurant or cafe yet. Ever since 2010, city staff has been working to bring one in. Five months ago, the city entered into negotiations with the owner of Jack’s Seafood, Jack Woo. On Tuesday, the city council unanimously voted to authorize staff to enter into a five-year lease agreement with the business, with another 5-year option when the contract expires. They also voted to use $245,000 in federal funds to pay for interior improvements to get the space ready. The restaurant could be open in the summer.
"It also gives the boardwalk area another tenant to get more traffic down there, and as a result, you won't have as much vandalism and homeless folks in the area," said Eureka Council Member Chet Albin, who worked on bringing the restaurant to the Fishermen’s Terminal Building.
