Former 49er Quarterback to be Guest Speaker at HSU Auction
ARCATA- Four-time Pro Bowler and former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia will be the keynote speaker at the 30thAnnual Celebrity Dinner & Sports Auction to be held on Saturday, March 28.
The event will be held in Lumberjack Arena and tickets are $100. Last year the event raised more than $251,000. Previous guest speakers have included Tim Brown, Rick Barry, Jim Harbaugh, Misty May, Joe Frazier and Steve Young. All funds raised at the event go toward scholarships for student-athletes.
"It will be great to be in the Lumberjack Arena for the event, because it allows us to have plenty of room for all aspects of the auction,” said Associate Athletic Director Tom Trepiak. “Anyone who may have been shut out in the past because we sold out will have an opportunity to attend in the larger facility."
"Humboldt County is an amazing, giving community. This event has maintained its high numbers over the years because of the many, generous individuals and businesses who care about the lives of young people.”
Garcia logged 12 NFL seasons and played for six different franchises, but he is best known for his five years in San Francisco. As a member of the 49ers, Garcia passed for 16,408 yards, threw 113 touchdowns and was selected to three Pro Bowls. He guided the San Francisco 49ers twice to the playoffs, including a come-from-behind Wild Card victory over the New York Giants in 2002.
Garcia spent five years in the Canadian Football League and led the Calgary Stampeders to a 1998 Grey Cup win. He played collegiately at San Jose State.
"Jeff Garcia has strong west coast connections and will likely have a lot of interesting things to say about the current state of affairs of the San Francisco 49ers as well as the teams during his time at quarterback for the team,” said Trepiak.
Former HSU President Rollin Richmond will be the Honored Guest at the event.
