Former Eureka City Councilmember Lance Madsen passes away

By order of the City Manager, pursuant to City Policy No. 142, the City of Eureka shall fly all flags at City buildings at half staff in honor of the passing of former Councilmember Lance Madsen, who passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014. Flags will be at half staff beginning now until the memorial service. 
 
Lance Madsen served as Councilmember for the City of Eureka from June 5, 1990 to November 3, 1998 and again from December 7, 2010 to December 17, 2013, stepping down for health reasons. 
 
Councilman Lance Madsen dedicated most of his life to public service. Besides serving as 
Councilmember, Lance also served the City as Police Officer, Detective and Child Abuse 
Investigator. He served on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club and the 
Eureka Theater project. Lance worked hard to find housing for people in Eureka, working 
for the Housing Authority. Because of his tireless efforts to make Eureka a better place, Lance 
Madsen was selected to receive the first Mayor’s Community Service Award of Merit. This 
annual award was created to show recognition to those in our community who have done 
outstanding work to make Eureka a better place to live.
