Fortuna campaign sign ordinance suspended, city council votes 4 to 1
FORTUNA- In Fortuna campaign candidates can now freely display campaign signs without prior restrictions. In a 4 to one vote Tuesday night the city council decided to toss out the old ordinance, which only allowed election campaign signs to be displayed 30-days prior to an election. Some argued campaigning frequently occurs beyond the 30-day period.
Currently, the city council has suspended the previous ordinance and directed staff to work on alternatives. From there, the proposed changes would go to the planning council to develop a permanent ordinance. News Channel 3 reached to Mayor Douglas Strehl but was declined.
