FORTUNA- A new mayor may be in the near future for the friendly city. Council members will vote on Monday to elect a mayor and mayor pro-tem. The positions are up for rotation every two years.

Current Mayor Douglas Strehl says he intends to step down from the position to allow more time to focus on other issues. If all goes as discussed this past week at a special meeting, council member Sue Long could become the next mayor of Fortuna.

But the mayor pro tem position is not as clear. With Mike Losey deciding not to run for another term, the position is now open to fill. Also at Monday’s meeting, the group will say goodbye to departing council members and swear in the new ones.
