Fortuna City Councilwoman recognized at annual event
Fortuna City Councilmember Sue Long has been awarded the “Woman of Distinction” title by Fortuna Kiwanis.
Today was the 16th annual “Woman in Business” luncheon. It’s a fundraiser to provide girls in the community with scholarships to go to college. The Kiwanis Club has handed out $12,000 dollars in scholarships since the fundraiser first started. The event is centered on honoring local women who demonstrate a strong work ethic.
The Kiwanis Club also chooses a family of the year. This year the Duey family was recognized for their outstanding citizenship and community involvement. Event coordinators said Long received the most prestigious award for her dedication to Fortuna.
"That lady has been on every commission, committee,” Don Brown said. “She's on city council, she runs a million dollar construction business, she is the backbone— one of the backbones of this community, and she is an outstanding lady."
