It was just a drill. Wednesday night the Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department conducted a complex earthquake and emergency.
Residents in Fortuna, Alton, Hydesville and Palmer Creek got to see fire engines in both residential and commercial areas as they responded to over sixty simulated emergencies like gas leaks, structure fires, downed power lines and other medical emergencies.
The Fortuna Police Department, Fortuna Public Works, and several schools assisted during the exercises. Fire officials said the drills would give them an opportunity to practice problem for real emergencies and to do so with limited personnel.
