FORTUNA- Renovations are underway at the Fortuna Police Department.
The agency received $82,357.75 from an E911 state grant to update its dispatch equipment. Renovations began this week and as part of that process, the agency has moved its current dispatch station to another office while the upgrades take place. Officers say the new dispatch should be up and running in one month. The upgrades will allow for a third workstation along with brand new furniture and equipment.
"In a major disaster or major incident, it will allow us to bring more employees in to help answer the phones, to help dispatch units, to help coordinate the incident," Lt. Matt Eberhardt said.
The department says residents will not see a change in services with the renovation. In June, the agency plans to completely upgrade it's records management system and dispatch software.
