FORTUNA- A small business in Fortuna is out of nearly $10,000 after a burglary Saturday morning.
$5,000 worth of Rock Revival jeans were taken from 5 O’clock Shadow at the Strongs Creek Plaza around 5:30 a.m. Saturday.
Security footage shows a man throwing a rock through the store’s glass door to gain access to the shop, and then stealing the jeans. The suspect spent only 25 seconds in the store, stuffing dozens of jeans in his tan duffle bag before exiting through the shattered door. Because the suspect was able to get in and out so quickly, owners believe that the man had been in the shop the day before.
According to the shop owners, each pair of jeans costs nearly $160. The owners have been scouring Internet trade and sell sites like Craigslist and Ebay for suspicious bulk sale of similar jeans.
“It’s frustrating when somebody steals from you,” said Nicole Genaro, co-owner of 5 O’clock Shadow. “I think a lot of people think, you know, it's a business so you have the money to loose, but you don't. Especially a small business, it's hard, month-to-month you're struggling to get buy and to have somebody come in and do $10,000 worth of damage to you is, that's a year setback not just a little bit in somebody's pocket. So it's a big loss.”
The Fortuna Police Department has not been able to ID the suspect at this time. If you have any information about this case you are asked to call the police department at: 725-7550.
