Free summer lunch program begins for Humboldt County children
EUREKA- Children in Humboldt County will receive free sack lunches again this summer. The meals are part of a summer lunch program organized by Food for People and the Humboldt Senior Resource Center.
Every day throughout the summer volunteers at the resource center pack between 300 to 500 sack lunches. Those lunches are then taken by Food for People representatives and distributed for free to children at parks and summer programs across Humboldt County.
The program is in its 18th year and distributed 14,946 lunches last year. It is funded by both the California Department of Education, as well as several private donors.
