SOUTHERN HUMBOLDT- A group of Garberville Sanitary District water consumers will now have more of a say in how the district works.

On Wednesday the Humboldt Local Agency Formation Commission approved the district to annex areas of the city and it’s outlying parts that were formerly served by the Garberville Water Company.

The district bought out the water company back in 2004, but did not re-draft its official service boundaries. Until Wednesday, 84 land parcels were being served by the district that were not part of its boundaries, preventing those consumers from having an active voice in the district's service.

On Wednesday the commission approved the annexation of those areas, saying the new boundaries will help the district to plan better for the services they provide.

“There was a need to adjust the boundaries to make the to make the service consistent with those receiving the service consistent with the boundaries of the district itself,” said Humboldt LAFCO Executive Officer George Williamson. “So I’d say just achieving that consistency through this action is probably the biggest benefit.”
