EUREKA- The scent of natural gas radiated down Union Street in Eureka Thursday morning after construction operations ruptured a city gas line.
Just after 9:30 Thursday morning construction crews struck a two-inch natural gas distribution pipeline on Union Street near Lissa Drive. The rupture was isolated to a dip in the roadway. According to Humboldt Bay Fire, there was no immediate danger to the surrounding neighborhood. The road has been closed for several weeks now due to construction. The flow of gas was stopped by 11:00 am Update: As of 11:30 Thursday night, 2 residents still have no gas. PG&E says they are working on getting service restored. No timetable was given..
