SACRAMENTO- Governor Jerry Brown signed a gaming compact between the state and the Karuk tribe to build a casino. The compact allows the tribe to operate a maximum amount of 1,500 slot machines on their tribal reservation.
The Karuk tribe is the second largest tribe in California with 3,700 tribal members. In a press release the Governor's office said gaming in the economically depressed area will create jobs and help to fund the tribal government.
