FORTUNA- Just in time for Halloween, stories of the dead are coming to life at Fortuna’s Masonic and Odd Fellow’s Cemetery.
Grave Matters and Untimely Departures is an annual fundraiser for the Fortuna Cemetery District. at the event on Sunday, visitors can take a 50-minute tour through the cemetery and learn about the history and manner of how those buried there died.
Volunteer actors will be dressed in costume and playing the roles of the deceased. Grave Matters is in its fifth year of production. Tours begin at 2 p.m. and end at 6 p.m.
“You get a chance to go to 8 different grave sites and actors portray the people who are buried there,” said Don Brown, an actor in the performance. “These are actually true stories and just weird and unusual ways for people that have died. I mean, you're not going to find any cancer patients or heart attacks here, these are you know dying in a helicopter crash, you know jumping off a cliff, burning up in a forest fire.”
