Green Diamond efforts to help 106 laid-off employees at Korbel Mill
BLUE LAKE - The California Redwood Company officially closed down operations last week at the 131 year old, Korbel sawmill.
After continued layoffs at the mill since 2008, Korbel has closed it's doors and laid-off 106 personnel. Many employees have worked at the mill for decades and two employees, over 40 years. Green Diamond Resource who owns California Redwood Company says it’s human resources department is working closely with those laid-off, to help them find new jobs. They have had three meetings with workforce investment agents, a work-fair with 11 different employers, along with three employment services and two workshops on job interviews and resume writing.
Gary Rynearson, Manager of forest policy at Green Diamond said, "Well this is difficult time in their lives, so we want to help them as much as we can and help them transition through this time and we hope this is useful to them to relocate and find employment”.
