Green Diamond Resource Company donates thousands of dollars to three local organizations
EUREKA- Three local organizations have received thousands of dollars worth of donations for their work in the community, thanks to the Green Diamond Resource Company and the Simpson Family Fund.
The President of the Green Diamond Resource Company, Douglas Reed, presented $35,000 to the Betty Kwan Chinn Day Center on Wednesday morning. The money will fund the After School Program for elementary to high school age children, GED workshops, Emergency Housing Vouchers and hot meals for the Outreach Program. The donation came from the Simpson Family Fund, which was established by the family who founded Simpson Timber Company, which later became Green Diamond Resource Company. Reed also presented gifts of more than $28,000 to the court appointed special advocates program and $10,000 to the Rising Stars Foundation.
"We look for organizations that really make a difference in the communities where they operate and these three really stood out to us and they had compelling proposals for where the money could go and make a difference. It really was not a hard choice," said Reed.
"I don't know how to find the words to say to Mr. Reed how much I appreciate him and I cannot find the right word yet and it's in my heart. And not just in me, but in the children who will benefit from this money, too," said Chinn.
