NORTH COAST - February 15th is the last day to sign up for healthcare and receive full credit, if you want zero penalties on your 2015 tax return.
The fees are calculated in two ways; by a percentage of your household income or a flat fee, whichever is higher. If you chose not to have healthcare in 2014, you will be penalized either 1% of your household income or $95 per person. However, the penalty fees for 2015 tax returns are tripled at $325 per person or 2% of your household income.
There are ways to receive tax credits and special enrollments will be allowed for life changing events. You can sign up through Covered California
If you have questions on how penalties are given and collected, you can find answers at www.healthcare.gov.
