ARCATA- A healthy baby girl who was born Wednesday morning was the first child born in Humboldt County in 2014.

The Castro family grew when Laila Rose Lorrain Castro came into this world at 12:21 this morning.  Laila is the second child of the McKinleyville family.  The father, Juan castro, guessed the baby would be born on New Year’s Day.  The parents say their daughter’s birth has made the holiday season even more special.

"I think it makes it more special and exciting. Definitely. And she gets fireworks on her birthday every year. How awesome is that?" said Brandy Castro, Laila’s mother.
