High tides flood streets in King Salmon and Arcata
KING SALMON- High tides caused minor flooding Wednesday morning in the low-lying coastal areas. Residents in King Salmon experienced flooding in the streets, while citizens reported water over Jackson Ranch Road in Arcata. But for many in King Salmon, they say the tidal flooding is nothing new.
“It happens every year,” said Brent Onfreitas an employee at a local restaurant, Gill’s By The Bay. “This isn't too bad. We're usually prepared for it before it even gets here. Some streets at times get really bad and people need to have their stuff moved out or we've even helped some elderly people out of their homes so, just because the water came in too quick.”
Wednesday’s tides peaked at just over 9 feet. The National Weather Service is predicting high tides and the possibility of flooding to continue through Saturday.
