Highway 101 north of Leggett considered unsafe for workers
MENDOCINO COUNTY – The major slide on highway 101, near Leggett that took a spill Monday morning continues to block lanes of travel. Caltrans says that not only is it dangerous for motorists, it is unsafe for workers to even travel from one side to the other.
THE SLIDE COMPLETELY COVERS BOTH LANES SPILLING OVER INTO THE EEL RIVER.
At this time, no estimated time for re-opening, and as of last Tuesday night, Caltrans confirms that slide removal will be taking place Wednesday evening, but may come to a halt due to weather inclement and other factors.
“It was going to depend upon how stable the hillside was,” says Caltrans District 1’s Chief of Public Information, Phil Frisbie, Jr.
“It is also going to depend upon this storm that's moving in this afternoon/evening. There's about a four mile stretch of 101 that is completely closed. The only detour is going over to I-5.”
